About Us

Our Mission

Oak City Cares is a public-private partnership that exists to support the self-determination of our neighbors experiencing homelessness through trusting relationships and connections to coordinated services that increase their ability to be safely and stably housed.

Our Vision

No person should experience homelessness alone. Oak City Cares is a gathering space where we listen to, connect with, and serve persons at-risk or experiencing homelessness so they can quickly reestablish a home.

Our Values

We value:

  • Radical Hospitality – Oak City Cares believes that radical hospitality is a way to eliminate barriers to services. Dedicated volunteers and staff create a welcoming and safe place full of respect and dignity and provide basic needs services designated to promote relationships between guests and service providers.

  • Quality Services – Homelessness is a temporary situation that can be eliminated. Oak City Cares is committed to using best practices and making data-driven decisions about the coordination services. Staff, both volunteer and paid, are competent, caring, and committed to the guests they serve. Oak City Cares supports and cares for staff and volunteers who provide the quality services.

  • Collaboration – Oak City Cares believes that collaboration is the key to ending homelessness. The multi-service center is a unique collaboration of individuals participating from government, nonprofits, corporations, and faith-based organizations. In addition, a variety of service providers are on-site with guests who visit the multi-service center. Oak City Cares understands its role in the homeless response system and works closely with the system to ensure that resources are shared and used efficiently.

  • Diversity, Inclusion and Equity – Oak City Cares understands that there are ingrained biases and discrimination that advantage some people and disadvantage others. As a result, the organization is committed to ensuring that those who are most marginalized are engaged in helping define the services and help that they need. OCC encourages the voice of lived-experience in conversations about service and facility priorities.
